Tips For Portraits

Do not forget to bring a brush, comb and damp cloth to tame stray strands of hair.
For your little ones, remember to bring a dry snack, one that will not soil the little ones clothes.
Infants should be fed and well rested before your appointment.
Arrive at least 10 minutes early. Running late will create stress, so give yourself time for traffic. Children pick up on stress. Arrive early, so that I can get to know you and your child.
I will interact with your child to make her/him feel at ease and more comfortable. Don’t worry if your little one starts to cry, I can usually stop their tears quickly.
I will capture the moment, so give the photo session time, I do not force it. It is a time to have fun

Clothing Ideas and Clothing Color Coordination
Keep it simple when planning your portrait. Do not wear bold or very large print, these take away from your face. Solid colors photograph the best.
Short sleeve draw attention away from your face, so long sleeve shirts and dresses are recommended. Small children and infants, it is okay to wear short sleeves.
Coordinate your outfits carefully from head to toe, select appropriate shoes, socks or stockings, because we may shoot a full-length pose.
Black and darker clothing will minimize body size, and white and light tones will emphasize body size.
Wear a scoop or v-neck if your face is full or your neck is short Wear a high-necked top or a turtleneck if your face is slender or your neck is longer.
When doing a group photo; try to dress all in the same style and or color of clothing. Do not mix dark and light colors. Do not mix formal and casual clothing.
Brighter colors and patterns should be saved for your accent items, such as scarves, ties or accessories.
Dark colored clothing looks better photographed against a darker background and it creates a formal mood. White and light colored clothing will look better in portraits that are taken against a white or a light colored background.
I will help you to select your background that is more suitable to your needs. Please feel free to bring your own props or your little ones favorite toy(s) to help us to personalize your photos. We want your personalities to shine though your photos. I offer hundreds of backgrounds to choose from.
Children may be nervous, so we want to keep it fun. Do not rehearse the sitting with your child, because I have many poses that I will use.
Keep your hairstyle and for adults your make-up simple. Any ribbons or barrettes keep them small. If you are going to have your hair trimmed, remember to do it at least 48 hours before your appointment time.
Family Portraits…
Family portraits are very special. I can take individual photos of each of the family members, as well as all of the children together. Do not forget to take this time to have a portrait taken of you and your spouse together.
